After latest opponent switch, UFC's Gunderson says Edwards a better matchup
Short-notice and last-minute are two terms that describe the bulk of
John Gunderson's career. By now, the UFC lightweight is used to opponent
switches. He grumbles for a minute, then moves on. It doesn't much
change his job in the gym.
Gunderson is from the school of year-round training. There are no fight camps - just a never-ending loop of gym sessions broken up only by his daughter's soccer games.
He admits he was disappointed when he couldn't fight "The Ultimate Fighter 8" winner Efrain Escudero, who instead ended up taking a fight with Charles Oliveira on the main card of UFC Fight Night 22 on Sept. 15 in Austin, Texas. But Gunderson also thinks Escudero's replacement, veteran Yves Edwards, is just as good a name, and a better overall opponent.

"Inside MMA" preview: New York's Bob Reilly discusses his opposition to MMA
Hardly a day goes by that UFC president Dana White isn't asked about his
promotion's progress on helping the sport of mixed martial arts gain
regulation in the state of New York.
One of the few remaining North American outposts that doesn't regulate MMA, New York has appeared close on several occasions to reversing its position on the sport, but ultimately, the legislature has yet to act.
Much of the opposition has been led by New York Assemblyman Bob Reilly, and he doesn't appear to be softening his stance.

No Olympics, no problem - UFC plans to create its own international tournament
For years, many mixed martial arts fans have wondered aloud why their favorite sport isn't a part of the Olympic Games.
After all, with boxing, judo, wrestling and tae kwon do already slated as modern Olympic events, what's the problem with adding the arts together?
That's an argument for another time and place. UFC president Dana White has far more pressing concerns on his mind. And besides, he envisions an international tournament staged far more frequently than every Olympiad.

Getting UFC opportunity is only half the fight for lightweight Yves Edwards
Veteran lightweight Yves Edwards has been around the block enough to
know that a UFC contract isn't an achievement in itself. It's what you
do when you're inside the octagon that counts.
Edwards fights John Gunderson at UFC Fight Night 22 on Sept. 15 in Austin, Texas. Don't get him wrong, he's happy to be back. But don't expect any big proclamations about how he's going to take over the 155-pound division.
"I've only tied my shoes," Edwards recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio. "I haven't even left the house yet."
